Trademarking

Companies of all sizes should consider trademarking. Did you know that you could be demanded to stop using a mark or word that you have used for years if another company trademarked it today? It's important to review whether or not you've trademarked your mark or name as it can cost thousands if you are ordered to change it.

Companies of all sizes should consider protecting the use of their company or product name and/or identity. You have to apply to the Intellectual Property Office to register a trade mark in the UK. You can complete a form online or submit a form and send it with the appropriate fee and fee sheet to the IPO Trade Marks Registry. If your trade mark application is acceptable it will then be published in the Trade Marks Journal. Assuming nobody objects to your application, your trade mark will be registered two months later and you'll get a certificate of registration. A trade mark is registered for ten years, after which time it can be renewed indefinitely.

Applying for a trade mark and carrying out an in-depth trade mark search can be complicated and daunting. Mistakes can be expensive and time-consuming. We provide a Trademark service via an experienced UK legal firm partner backed by the DBA.
