Brief:
My Africa Day is an outdoors one day event that celebrates African culture. There would be food markets, singers, dancers, painters and other artists. It was an event open to all age groups and all interests. They wanted a simple but upbeat and striking icon that could be easily reproduced on promotional material.
Solution:
We wanted to create an icon that was distinctly African but also symbolised the fun and vibrancy of the event. We chose to go with a single African dancer in full tribal dress, to play on the fact that it was about individual visitors finding 'their' individual experience. We used the sun in the background to symbolise it being a one day event. We kept the font rustic looking but with a European style font to show the meeting of the cultures.
