HTML5 Web Design: Shiny future, or not?

People frequently hail some of the new features coming in with HTML5 as the second coming of the internet. Something that will kill off Flash and bring a world of rich interaction and media. It's not hard to see why given some of the amazing animations and user interfaces that have come about in recent years. However the technology is still in its infancy, and whilst browsing the homepage of MSN UK recently, I had to wonder whether the future may not be as shiny as hoped once commercial interests really take hold.

Magento.. mature, flexible yet sturdy

Mature, flexible yet sturdy... it has to be Magento
Magento as an open source piece of kit gives small and large businesses alike the opportunity to develop online sales channels cost effectively and efficiently. Note that I just said sales channel(s) not just channel. Thats because Magento is flexible, flexible like that yoga teacher you would see on the TV in 80's. Anyone remember her? One Magento install can give a business multiple sales channels, which can be individually designed, branded and marketed as seperate businesses.

Chris O'Connor Promotions new look website!

This month saw the launch of Chris O’Connor Promotions’ new e-commerce website! Both the client and ahoy are really pleased with the end result.
Their new look needed to reflect the vibrant, fast moving and exciting world of the leisure and entertainment industry. To achieve this we began with some great attention-grabbing copy, introduced eye-catching flash animation and bright photography. To add to the fast paced feel, a scrolling ticker was integrated into the homepage, streaming new information, offers and releases, all updated via twitter, so they can even be posting the latest news from their mobile phones down on the ground within seconds!
Users now have the ability to buy tickets online, book suites and enjoy fantastic match day experiences with Rosso, The Mark Addy and Manchester United Football Club. Customers are greeted with a smooth checkout process allowing them to pay fully securely, as well as review all their past orders. The system automatically informs Chris O' Connor of the new sale, as well as implementing a stocking system to minimise the disappointment that would come from two people trying to book the same seat then having to have it refunded later.
Behind the scenes we also developed a unique content managed system so our friends at Chris O’Connor have complete control of the information within the site, as well as the sales side of the process. This means they can quickly and easily add new matches, upload offers and special events as soon as they become available any time of the day, giving them an edge on the competition.
