The Seed Cathedral wins the RIBA Award

The Seed Cathedral, a sculpture structure designed by “B of the Bang” (RIP) artist Thomas Heatherwick has just won the prestigious RIBA award for architecture. The name refers to the race to save seeds from around the world in banks, therefore the cathedral is pierced by 60,000 transparent acrylic rods that each contain a seed.  The build stands in Shanghai for the 2010 World Expo and was built by British business and government funding. RIBA president Ruth Reed called it "an outstanding emblem for Britain". The six-storey, cube-like structure looks stunning on the inside too with each rod drawing in splinters of light during the day. Take a further look here.
